> As part of the Data Access Framework (DAF) candidate standards analysis, some of the community members requested consideration of Direct as a candidate for transporting queries. While the DAF Support team will continue to work with the community to define/refine and analyze standards using the SOAP and RESTful stack, we wanted to poll the interest level of the community to create the necessary artifacts for Direct to be used as a candidate standard for queries.

> The DAF Initiative will consider a sub-workgroup if at least five (5) organizations commit to developing the necessary artifacts (defining the query structures, result structures, bindings to the transport, authentication/authorization mechanisms) that would be required for Direct to be considered as a candidate.
>
> The DAF Initiative will provide a meeting platform and assist with logistics surrounding this SWG. The expectations are that:
>
> * This will be a community led group;
> * This sub-workgroup will define and develop the necessary agendas, timelines, activities and artifacts to then periodically present to the DAF Technical WG;
> * Additional responsibilities may include initiating the creation of an IG as well as any proposal to a Standards Development Organization, etc.
>
> Please note that the DAF community will evaluate the work that is presented; however, the community is not committed to adopt any SWG activities.
>
